Sweep at least once per year — ideally at the end of winter before the stove is put to rest. Heavy users should sweep twice yearly.
Coal and smokeless fuels produce more deposits than wood. We recommend sweeping twice per year if you burn coal regularly.
Gas fires should be swept annually too. While they produce fewer deposits, they can still develop blockages from debris and bird nests.
